Knights Garden Centres was born of a Father’s dream to run a family owned business, in the aftermath of World War II. The business is situated over 2 sites in the Surrey countryside offering a vast array of outdoor plants and equipment.
Noting that a Garden Centre is a perfect place to sit and enjoy, Knights sought to upgrade their existing Café facility in order that they could provide an additional dining experience within a Victorian Walled Garden. Gratte Brothers was commissioned to supply and fit the catering equipment into a brand new purpose built extension.
Creating one catering facility for both areas, Gratte Brothers specified Walk-in Cold Rooms and Freezer, all-in-one Cook Suite, Combi Oven, dishwashing and drying areas, Front of House Display and all bar bottle cold storage. Additional forethought was given to the running of external ductwork and all sensitively installed to fit the garden environment.
Working to programme with Knight’s selected local builder, the project was subject to major roadworks leading to the site, running 6 months late; meaning necessary utility upgrades could not commence. Working with Knights, Gratte Brothers demobilised and rearranged the commissioning and training programme to be available as soon as the Council would allow works to begin.
The Victorian Walled Garden was listed as a Finalist in Horticulture Weeks Catering Excellence Award 2017.
