Browns Hotel is not only London’s first hotel but is also considered one of the Capital’s most illustrious. Opening its doors in 1847 and having hosted esteemed guests, from royals to Presidents, it is today owned by Rocco Forte. One of 14 of the British Hotel Group’s highly individual hotels, this 5-star Mayfair Hotel provides fine dining experiences, world-class facilities and the highest level of service.
Gratte Brothers Foodservice Solutions was appointed to undertake a turnkey catering facility project that included a full strip out of all equipment including walls, floors and ceilings, mechanical and electrical services and the installation of two new kitchens.
The downstairs kitchen operates for the Mis En Plas as well as the various catering elements throughout the hotel, inclusive of catering through the night for room service. The main pot wash area was moved from a separate room to be consolidated within the main kitchen space. A further kitchen was installed on the first floor to cater for the meetings and events, which are held in the lavish upstairs function rooms.
Installing a kitchen in a busy London hotel comes with its challenges. Access to transport equipment in and out of the site was via a narrow staircase and we had to ensure that all goods were delivered to the site between 11:30pm and 6am to negate any disruption to the hotel’s clients.
