A new lease of life was required for an inner city London School that wished to take advantage of innovative architecture to maximise opportunities for its pupils. BAM Construction, the Main Contractor for the £25m build, selected Gratte Brothers as its M&E contractor and also appointed them to provide the Security Package for the school and associated Community Sports Centre.
Gratte Brothers supplied and installed a full electrical package, including LV mains, sub-mains, small power, lighting, the mechanical systems, ventilation, hot and cold systems, above ground drainage, energy centre, solar thermal capture, BMS, water treatment, insulation and accompanying security requirements, fire alarms, CCTV, access control, disabled refuge and intruder alarms.
Spread over 5 school blocks on a campus of 157,000sqft, the council had instructed architects Walter and Cohen to produce a stimulating campus. This required the installation of a sophisticated BMS and network installation. Gratte Brothers has an accredited Design Team to appraise, configure and commission a successful, multi-system discipline and integrated client network.
The scale of transformation had to be tackled in conjunction with School’s term pattern, in a highly built-up area, requiring heightened safety awareness and traffic management logistics.
To ensure the project success, Gratte Brothers nurtured close relationships at the earliest stage of the build, starting with the Consultants, all the way through to investing Commissioning time with the School Caretaker to ensure fruitful equipment deployment.
The project itself has been awarded multiple RIBA accolades specifically noting the pupil benefits.
