GRIDSERVE's Markham Vale Electric Forecourt is a flagship EV charging destination developed on a regenerated former colliery site near the M1.
As part of the project, Gratte Brothers delivered the site-wide data network infrastructure and integrated security systems that enable secure, reliable and connected operations across the forecourt.
Gratte Brothers supplied, installed and commissioned the site-wide data network serving the full forecourt. The package included structured cabling, fibre connectivity and associated hardware, creating the digital backbone for operational systems including access control and CCTV.

All works were delivered in line with GRIDSERVE’s health, safety and compliance requirements, with full RAMS, site inductions and quality controls in place.
The key challenge was to deliver resilient, future-ready data networks in a live construction environment. The solution needed to support reliable connected operations without exposing sensitive technical detail, while providing clear handover information for efficient operation from day one.
The site’s external environment also required careful consideration, with external-grade cabling and fibre specified to withstand weather exposure while maintaining performance and compliance standards.

We established clear technical requirements and operational priorities by engaging with GRIDSERVE stakeholders early on. Installation standards were aligned to GRIDSERVE’s RFP objectives, with strong emphasis on workmanship, cable management, labelling and comprehensive as-built documentation.
By delivering both the physical infrastructure and the technical information needed for ongoing support, the team gave GRIDSERVE greater operational confidence at handover while helping reduce future maintenance risk.
Close coordination with other contractors kept works aligned to the wider programme and supported smooth integration across the site.
