UPS Replacement

Phased installation in a live environment

The programme involved removing two legacy UPS units and their associated battery systems, followed by the installation of modern MPW 300 UPS units paired with upgraded 90Ah battery banks.

To maintain uninterrupted services for building occupants, the works were delivered over two consecutive weekends. This phased approach enabled the safe isolation, decommissioning, installation and testing of each UPS without operational downtime. A soak test between phases validated system performance before proceeding with the second installation.

Upgrading and Integrating with Existing Infrastructure

Each phase required close coordination with the client’s facilities and building management teams. Activities included:

  • Removal and installation of AC and DC cabling
  • Integration of new DC isolator and string isolator panels
  • Full commissioning and functional testing of both UPS systems

This ensured seamless integration with existing infrastructure and restored full resilience to the client’s critical power systems.

Improved Efficiency and Carbon Reduction

The newly installed MPW 300 units deliver an efficiency rating of approximately 95.9%, providing a substantial uplift in energy performance compared with the legacy equipment. This upgrade is expected to:

  • Reduce annual CO₂ emissions
  • Lower operational energy costs
  • Strengthen resilience across critical systems
  • Support the client’s ongoing sustainability commitments
